Lens Studio is another tool we used to explore Augmented Reality (AR). This tool allows users to create filters that can be brought into social media platforms like Snapchat and TikTok. During the semester, we learned how to utilize Lens Studio to create a variety of filters from simple face paints to head binding objects to location recognition. One that I really enjoyed doing and ended up turning out very well was the creation of the future astronaut helmet lens. To make this, I used the segmentation tool to separate the background from the foreground. The background was just a basic stary background and the foreground was the helmet. I did a head binding to the helmet so that it stays with the user at all times. This lens will allow the user to feel like they are actually in a sci-fi type of space with an AR helmet attached to their head. It was a lot of fun creating this and it allowed me to explore a few new tools.
The image above shows off the lens/filter while in action. The user can move around, and the helmet will always stay with their head. The background will also not combine with the foreground.
